DWPF provided financial advice to Resource Recovery Solutions Ltd, a Shanks Group and Interserve Group joint venture, on the 27 year PPP contract with the Derby City and Derbyshire County Councils.

Approximately £195m of debt was arranged to finance the 190,000 tonne per annum Mechanical Biological Treatment (‘MBT’) and gasification facility at Sinfin Lane in Derby. The new facility is expected to be completed by April 2017.

Senior debt was provided by BayernLB, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) and the UK Green Investment Bank (UK GIB).

The new facility is expected to divert up to 98% of residents’ residual waste from landfill, while also generating enough green electricity to power approximately 14,000 homes. This electricity will be supplied to the national grid, offsetting the cost of the waste treatment to the Councils.
