Higher Education

Graham has over 18 years’ experience in Project Finance and has provided financial advisory and analytical services across a range of sectors.

Most of this experience has been gained in the Student Accommodation sector having been involved in closing 40 transactions over the last 14 years whilst at DWPF. This included being responsible for leading:

  • financial advisory and analytical services to Arlington Advisers over the last 4 years on the acquisition of student accommodation properties with over 10,000 bedrooms and a value of £750M. This involved closing 8 projects with a variety of bond and bank funding;
  • financial advisory and analytical services to Campus Living Villages (CLV) on closing transactions with over 8,000 bedrooms and a value of £600M. This included acquiring a former Opal asset portfolio, PPP projects at Goldsmiths (University of London), University of St Andrews (Fife Park and Gap sites), Bournemouth University (Cranborne House) and refinancing existing facilities at the University of Bedfordshire;
  • financial advisory services provided directly to Universities on over £400M of PPP projects. This included Durham University (Mount Oswald 1,000 bed new build PPP), University of Hertfordshire (College Lane 3,000 room new build / refurbishment PPP) and University of Nottingham (Broadgate Park 2,223 room PPP refinancing);
  • the DWPF financial modelling team on the financial close of 23 projects with University Partnership Programme (UPP) with a combined value of over £2bn.

Graham has experience across various stages of transactions including; primary bidding, refinancing/restructuring and both equity buy and sell side. This includes significant strategic financial modelling expertise having previously led the financial modelling team at DWPF for 7 years.

Graham joined DWPF in 2003 and prior to that held various senior financial positions in the Energy, Telecommunication and Property sectors. He is a fellow member of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants.
